West Coast Discovery Tour

Discover the west coast of Auckland City and it’s magical black sand beaches and surfs.

West Coast Discovery Black sand beaches, rugged beauty & pounding surf!

Discover the wild beauty of Auckland’s dramatic west coast on an unforgettable journey through ancient rainforest, cascading waterfalls, and the iconic black-sand shores of Piha.

Your adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from Auckland City before travelling through the lush native landscapes of the Waitākere Ranges, where winding scenic roads reveal breathtaking views of forested valleys and rugged coastline.

The first stop is the Arataki Visitor Centre, the gateway to the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park. Here you’ll gain insight into New Zealand’s unique native forests, towering kauri trees, and the cultural significance of the region. Step out onto the viewing platforms for sweeping panoramic views stretching across the rainforest-covered ranges to the distant Tasman Sea — the perfect introduction to Auckland’s wild west coast.

Continue deeper into the ranges to discover one of the region’s beautiful waterfalls. Enjoy a short walk through native bush to the falls, where you can capture stunning photos, feel the cool mist of the cascading water, or simply take in the peaceful surroundings of the forest.

The journey then leads to the legendary Piha Beach, New Zealand’s most famous surf beach. Its striking black iron-sand shoreline and powerful waves rolling in from the Tasman Sea create a truly dramatic coastal landscape.

Take time to stroll along the beach, breathe in the fresh ocean air, or simply relax and admire the untamed beauty of this iconic location.

Standing proudly in the centre of the beach is the famous Lion Rock, a volcanic monolith that has become the symbol of Piha.

After exploring the wonders of the West Coast, sit back and enjoy the scenic drive as we return to Auckland City, bringing your West Coast Discovery to a relaxing close.
